Overview

Phytanoyl-CoA 2-hydroxylase interacting protein (PHYHIP) is a cytoplasmic protein encoded by the PHYHIP gene on chromosome 8 in humans. It interacts with phytanoyl-CoA 2-hydroxylase (PHYH/PAHX) and is thought to play a role in the development of the central nervous system, although its precise molecular function remains incompletely characterized. PHYHIP displays protein tyrosine kinase binding activity and is involved in protein localization. While PHYHIP is associated by gene proximity with Refsum disease, it is not itself a classic therapeutic target and currently has no known drugs or targeted biomarkers. There is no evidence for PHYHIP functioning as a receptor, enzyme, transporter, or transcription factor.
