Overview

piggyBac transposable element derived 4 pseudogene 2 (PGBD4P2) is a non-protein-coding pseudogene in humans, categorized as a processed pseudogene related to transposable element fragments. It is transcribed at low levels in normal tissues but shows increased expression in some types of cancer, including bladder cancer, where research indicates it may promote cell proliferation and migration. Its sequence includes regions highly homologous to its functional parental gene (PA2G4/EBP1) and unique regions, suggesting possible regulatory roles. However, PGBD4P2 does not encode a functional protein and is not recognized as a bona fide therapeutic target such as a receptor or enzyme. It may serve as a potential biomarker or future research candidate for cancer diagnostics, but there are currently no drugs known to interact with this locus[1][2][3][5][6][10].
