PiggyBac transposable element derived 4 pseudogene 6 (PGBD4P6) is a human genomic pseudogene encoded on chromosome 1 (HGNC ID: HGNC:44071). It is derived from sequences homologous to the piggyBac transposase, an enzyme originally identified in insects, but lacks a functional open reading frame and does not encode an active protein. Like other pseudogenes, PGBD4P6 may have arisen from duplication and mutation of an ancestral gene and retains nonfunctional or potentially regulatory RNA transcripts. While some pseudogenes have demonstrated involvement in post-transcriptional regulation or disease contexts through RNA mechanisms, there is currently no evidence of functional protein coding, disease association, or therapeutic relevance for PGBD4P6.
