Pigment epithelium-derived factor (PEDF) is a 50 kDa secreted glycoprotein with potent neuroprotective and antiangiogenic properties. Short peptides derived from PEDF have been developed to harness specific biological activities of the full-length protein, such as neuroprotection and inhibition of angiogenesis. These peptides offer advantages like improved stability, reduced antigenicity, and lower production cost compared to full-length PEDF.
