PIGY divergent transcript (PIGY-DT) is a noncoding RNA transcribed from a region adjacent to the PIGY gene on chromosome 4q22.1. It belongs to a class of divergent transcripts, a phenomenon where both sides of a promoter are transcribed in opposite directions, usually producing RNA molecules that do not code for proteins. Most divergent transcripts are unstable and have unknown or minimal cellular functions. While divergent transcription is hypothesized to contribute to gene origination and genomic evolution, PIGY-DT itself is not associated with any established protein-coding function or disease relevance, nor is it recognized as a drug target or biomarker[1][2].
