Overview

PIN1 divergent transcript (PIN1-DT, also known as CTD-2623N2.11 or PIN1 transcript variant 2) is a long non-coding RNA (lncRNA) arising from the PIN1 gene locus. Unlike the canonical PIN1 protein-coding transcript, PIN1-DT does not produce functional protein due to early termination of translation. Recent studies reveal that PIN1-DT functions as a regulatory lncRNA with the ability to suppress HIF-1α (hypoxia-inducible factor 1-alpha) expression under hypoxic conditions. Its biological role is characterized by the modulation of hypoxia signaling rather than direct enzymatic or receptor activities. There is currently no evidence that this transcript is directly targeted by drugs or used as a biomarker. The primary confusion surrounds naming conventions, as PIN1 (the protein) is a well-established enzyme with numerous disease associations, but PIN1-DT specifically refers to the non-coding transcript, which is not a classical therapeutic target.
