Pituitary tumor-transforming 3 pseudogene (PTTG3P) is a processed pseudogene displaying high homology to the oncogenic members pituitary tumor-transforming 1 (PTTG1) and pituitary tumor-transforming 2 (PTTG2)[3][1]. Although it has limited protein-coding capacity, PTTG3P is transcribed as a long non-coding RNA and is expressed in various normal and tumor tissues[1]. Functional studies reveal that it may act as a competing endogenous RNA, promote cell proliferation and invasion, and upregulate PTTG1—thus playing an oncogenic role in cancer progression[3][1]. Elevated levels of PTTG3P are linked to poor prognosis in multiple cancer types, most notably breast and hepatocellular carcinoma, indicating its potential as both a therapeutic target and a biomarker in cancer biology[3][1][6]. No drugs are currently approved or known to directly target PTTG3P.\n\nThis gene is often misnamed in some resources; "pituitary tumor-transforming 1 pseudogene" is not standard—PTTG1 is protein coding, while PTTG3P is the recognized pseudogene.
