Overview

PIWIL4 antisense RNA 1 (PIWIL4-AS1) is a long non-coding RNA (lncRNA) transcribed antisense to the PIWIL4 gene. Antisense RNAs like PIWIL4-AS1 are often involved in the regulation of their sense gene's expression, most commonly through mechanisms such as RNA-RNA hybridization, recruitment of chromatin-modifying complexes, or modulation of RNA stability. PIWIL4-AS1 itself is not a receptor, enzyme, transporter, or typical drug target. Its biological roles are not well-characterized in the literature, but by analogy to other lncRNAs, it may participate in regulation of PIWIL4 expression or function. There is currently insufficient evidence to classify it as a direct disease biomarker or therapeutic target[6]. Notes: - PIWIL4-AS1 is distinct from PIWIL4 (the protein-coding gene), which is involved in gene silencing and has more evidence as a possible cancer-associated or epigenetic target[1][4]. - No direct information about PIWIL4-AS1 as a therapeutic target, interacting drugs, or clinical biomarkers was found in the search results. - If further information is needed specific to PIWIL4 (the protein), a different entry should be used, as most disease/target data involves PIWIL4, not the PIWIL4-AS1 lncRNA.
