Overview

PKD1 antisense RNA 1 (PKD1-AS1), also known as LUCRC (LncRNA Upregulated in Colorectal Cancer), is a long non-coding RNA transcribed antisense to the PKD1 gene locus. PKD1-AS1 is notably upregulated in colorectal cancer, where it has been shown to promote cell growth and tumorigenesis, primarily through modulation of pathways associated with endoplasmic reticulum stress response[6]. As a lncRNA, PKD1-AS1 does not encode a protein but can regulate gene expression at the transcriptional or post-transcriptional level. Its close association with both colorectal cancer and the PKD1 gene locus (associated with polycystic kidney disease) suggests possible roles in gene regulation and disease pathophysiology. PKD1-AS1 is being investigated as a potential biomarker for colorectal cancer diagnosis and prognosis, but it is not a classical therapeutic target such as a receptor, enzyme, or ion channel[6][5].
