Molecular classification
Long non-coding RNA (lncRNA), Antisense RNA

Overview

PKNOX2 divergent transcript (PKNOX2-DT), also called PKNOX2-AS1 or PKNOX2 antisense RNA 1 (head to head), is a long non-coding RNA (lncRNA) transcribed from the region adjacent or opposite to the PKNOX2 coding gene. It is annotated in genomic and gene databases, but there are no peer-reviewed experimental studies to date that clarify its molecular function, biological processes, or any disease link. Its nomenclature (including "AS1" for antisense RNA 1) indicates it is an antisense transcript, potentially involved in gene regulation, especially related to the adjacent PKNOX2 gene. However, unlike PKNOX2, which is a well-studied protein-coding transcription factor, PKNOX2-DT is currently an uncharacterized lncRNA without evidence of being a direct therapeutic target or having direct clinical relevance[5]. Key considerations: - PKNOX2-DT is not a conventional therapeutic target such as a receptor, transporter, enzyme, or transcription factor. - It should not be confused with the protein-coding PKNOX2 gene, which encodes a transcription factor involved in development and disease[1][2][3][4]. - PKNOX2-DT is a distinct non-coding entity with no known drug interactions, mechanisms of pharmacological action, or established biomarker status.

Mechanism of action

Not applicable; no drugs or direct interventions reported

03

Biological functions

Currently unclear; antisense lncRNAs often modulate expression of neighboring genes, such as PKNOX2, but specific biological roles for PKNOX2-DT have not been defined in the literature[5].
04

Disease associations

Unknown; literature contains no specific disease association for PKNOX2-DT. Associations described for PKNOX2 (protein-coding) do not apply to the divergent transcript[5].
