It does not encode a protein and currently has no described direct biological or disease-related function. PLA2G4E-AS1 is classified among antisense RNAs, which are typically defined by their transcription from the opposite genomic strand of a protein-coding gene, but there is no experimental or clinical evidence suggesting that PLA2G4E-AS1 is a therapeutic target, disease driver, or biomarker at this time[7][9]. As a result, it is not considered a receptor, enzyme, transporter, or other traditional drug target.
