Placenta associated 9 pseudogene 1 (PLAC9P1) is a noncoding pseudogene located on the reverse strand of chromosome 2 (2q) in the human genome, spanning approximately 2kb and containing a single transcript[3]. It does not produce a functional protein and has no known roles in physiology, disease, or drug interactions. PLAC9P1 is distinct from the protein-coding gene Placenta associated 9 (PLAC9), which is implicated in cell cycle regulation and lung cancer pathogenesis[2][4]. PLAC9P1 is sometimes confused with PLAC9 (Placenta associated 9), a protein-coding gene involved in cell proliferation, migration, and cancer biology[2][4]. PLAC9 is a potential molecular target, whereas PLAC9P1 as a pseudogene is not considered an actionable or therapeutic target.
