Overview

Placenta enriched 4 (PLAC4) is a gene highly expressed in the placenta, also referred to as placenta-specific protein 4 or C21orf115[7]. It is classified as a long non-coding RNA (lncRNA) gene, although some annotations list protein products; its precise biological function remains unclear[7]. PLAC4 is often used as a marker of placental tissue in transcriptome studies, but there is no evidence it functions as a therapeutic target, nor are there reports of interaction with drugs or association with any disease. It is primarily noted for its specificity to placental tissue and is not implicated in signal transduction, metabolism, or receptor activity pathways[7]. There are no documented safety or clinical concerns pertaining to PLAC4.
