Membrane-bound Alkaline Phosphatase (ALP)

Target
ALP
Molecular classification
Enzyme, Hydrolase, Glycoprotein
01

Overview

Membrane-bound alkaline phosphatase (ALP) is a family of membrane-associated glycoprotein enzymes that catalyze the hydrolysis of phosphate monoesters, releasing inorganic phosphate. ALPs are present in virtually all forms of life and are concentrated in tissues such as liver, bone, kidney, intestinal mucosa, placenta, and germ cells. Serum levels of specific ALP isoenzymes serve as biomarkers for various conditions.
