In a pharmacological context, the 'Plant genome' is not considered a valid therapeutic target because it is an assembly of thousands of distinct genes rather than a specific molecular entity like a receptor or enzyme [2]. While herbicides and biotechnological tools interact with components of the genome, they typically target specific proteins, such as 5-enolpyruvylshikimate-3-phosphate synthase, or specific DNA sequences via gene-editing technologies [2, 3]. Because the term is overly broad and lacks molecular specificity, it is categorized as an incorrect designation for a drug target. Furthermore, while the genome encodes proteins responsible for human allergies and toxicities, it does not function as a site for human therapeutic intervention.
