Overview

Plant growth promotion refers to a complex physiological phenomenon where the growth, vigor, and productivity of plants are increased through biological or chemical interventions. It is frequently facilitated by plant growth-promoting rhizobacteria (PGPR), which colonize the rhizosphere and provide beneficial services such as nitrogen fixation, phosphate solubilization, and the production of phytohormones like indole-3-acetic acid (IAA) (Glick, 2012; NCBI). Additionally, small molecules and biopolymers such as chitosan act as biostimulants to trigger endogenous growth-promoting pathways and enhance resilience to environmental stressors (Chakraborty et al., 2020; MDPI). Because this term describes a broad biological outcome involving multiple signaling pathways and metabolic networks rather than a single protein or receptor, it is not categorized as a specific therapeutic target molecule (Sukiran et al., 2022; Plant Direct). Instead, it represents a multifaceted phenotypic response to symbiotic or chemical stimuli aimed at improving agricultural yields and sustainability (MDPI; Frontiers).
