Overview

Plant pathogenic bacteria are diverse bacteria capable of infecting plants, causing a wide range of diseases and symptoms including wilts, blights, soft rots, and galls. They use various pathogenicity mechanisms including secretion of toxins and enzymes, overcoming plant immune responses, colonizing xylem or intercellular spaces, and biofilm formation. Control strategies include chemical antibiotics, plant-derived antimicrobials, genetic resistance breeding in plants, and bacteriophage or biological control. They should not be considered a "target" in the sense of a drug receptor or enzyme but as a category of infectious agents with numerous specific targets at the molecular level within the pathogens themselves[3][2][4][6].
