Plasma Coagulation Factors

Plasma coagulation factors are a group of proteins in blood plasma essential for hemostasis. They participate in a cascade of reactions leading to the formation of a stable fibrin clot, preventing excessive bleeding after vascular injury. Deficiencies or dysfunctions can lead to bleeding disorders or thrombosis. Key factors include fibrinogen, prothrombin, tissue factor, calcium, and factors V, VII, VIII, IX, X, XI, XII, and XIII. Most factors are synthesized in the liver and some require Vitamin K for maturation. Measurement of these factors is central to diagnosing coagulopathies.
