Magnesium-dependent Calcium Transport ATPase (PMCA)

Target
PMCA
Molecular classification
Enzyme, P-type ion transporting ATPases, Transporter
01

Overview

The magnesium-dependent calcium transport ATPase (PMCA) is a P-type ATPase enzyme crucial for cellular calcium homeostasis. It actively transports Ca²⁺ ions out of the cytosol across the plasma membrane using ATP hydrolysis, dependent on both Mg²⁺ and Ca²⁺. PMCA maintains low intracellular free calcium, essential for signaling. Dysfunction is linked to neurodegenerative and cardiac diseases.
