Plasmepsin X (PMX) is an essential aspartyl protease found in the malaria parasite *Plasmodium falciparum*. It plays a critical role in multiple stages of the parasite's life cycle, including egress from and invasion into erythrocytes, development of functional liver merozoites, and blocking transmission to mosquitoes. These functions make PMX a highly attractive multistage drug target for antimalarial therapy.
