Plasminogen Activator Inhibitor-1-Binding Protein

Molecular classification
Protein-protein interaction, Extracellular matrix protein binding
01

Overview

Plasminogen activator inhibitor-1-binding protein refers to proteins that interact with plasminogen activator inhibitor-1 (PAI-1), a key serine protease inhibitor (serpin) in the regulation of fibrinolysis and extracellular matrix remodeling. The most well-characterized PAI-1 binding partner is vitronectin, but PAI-1 also interacts with other molecules such as the urokinase-type plasminogen activator receptor (uPAR), low-density lipoprotein receptor-related protein 1 (LRP1), and various matrix proteins. Binding partners modulate PAI-1’s stability, activity, localization, and its broader roles in cell adhesion, migration, proliferation, apoptosis regulation, wound healing, angiogenesis, inflammation, tissue fibrosis, cardiovascular disease progression, cancer biology—including tumor growth—and cellular senescence.
