Plasminogen Activator Inhibitor Type 1 (PAI-1)

Target
PAI-1
Molecular classification
Serine protease inhibitor, Serpin
01

Overview

Plasminogen activator inhibitor type 1 (PAI-1) is a serine protease inhibitor (serpin) and the principal physiological inhibitor of tissue-type plasminogen activator (tPA) and urokinase-type plasminogen activator (uPA), which are enzymes responsible for converting plasminogen to plasmin, thereby promoting fibrinolysis. It plays roles in clot regulation, extracellular matrix degradation, wound healing, angiogenesis, cell migration, and is implicated in diseases such as thrombosis, fibrosis, and cancer.
