Target intelligence / Profile preview
The Plasmodium falciparum 80S ribosome (Pf80S) is the cytoplasmic ribosome of the malaria parasite P. falciparum, responsible for protein synthesis within the parasite. As a eukaryotic ribosome, it consists of two subunits: the small 40S and large 60S subunits. The Pf80S ribosome is structurally distinct from its human counterpart, particularly in its rRNA expansion segments and certain protein extensions, making it an attractive target for antimalarial drug development.
