The erythrocytic stage of Plasmodium falciparum refers to the parasite's life cycle within red blood cells. This stage is responsible for the clinical manifestations of malaria. During this stage, merozoites invade RBCs, develop through ring, trophozoite, and schizont stages, and eventually rupture to release more merozoites. Some parasites differentiate into gametocytes for transmission to mosquitoes.
