Plasmodium malaria antigens are proteins, enzymes, and other biomolecules expressed by malaria parasites (Plasmodium species—mainly P. falciparum, P. vivax, P. ovale, P. malariae, and P. knowlesi) during infection. These antigens, including histidine-rich protein II (HRP-II), parasite lactate dehydrogenase (pLDH), aldolase, and various soluble proteins, are commonly used as biomarkers for the diagnosis and monitoring of malaria through rapid diagnostic tests and serological methods. They play a role in parasite metabolism, immune response activation, and are key to discriminating between different malaria species, especially in epidemiological and clinical contexts. Detection of these antigens in blood allows differentiation between Plasmodium infections and is essential for rapid, point-of-care malaria diagnosis and patient management.

Mechanism of action
