Plastin 1 pseudogene 1 (PLS1P1) is a non-coding DNA sequence in the human genome that closely resembles the sequence of the protein-coding gene PLS1 (Plastin 1), but due to disabling mutations such as insertions, deletions, or premature stop codons, it does not encode a functional protein. Like most pseudogenes, PLS1P1 may be transcribed into RNA under some circumstances, and while some pseudogenes are implicated in gene regulation (often via their RNA products), there is no specific evidence that PLS1P1 has a defined biological function or disease association. Pseudogenes can sometimes act as regulatory elements for their parental genes, for example, by acting as microRNA sponges or by forming regulatory RNAs, but the vast majority have no demonstrated clinical or biological significance. PLS1P1 has not been identified as a therapeutic target, nor are any drug interactions, biomarker uses, or safety concerns associated with it.
