Platelet-activating factor acetylhydrolase 1b catalytic subunit 3 (PAFAH1B3) is an enzyme that removes an acetyl group from the glycerol backbone of platelet-activating factor (PAF) and related lipids, terminating PAF signaling. It is a catalytic subunit (alpha1) of the cytosolic PAF acetylhydrolase isoform 1B complex, which also contains alpha2 (PAFAH1B2) and a regulatory beta subunit (PAFAH1B1). This complex is important for normal brain development. Alterations, including chromosomal translocations involving PAFAH1B3, have been linked to neurological disorders such as cognitive disability and ataxia. The protein displays hydrolase activity and is involved in lipid metabolism pathways.
