Platelet-derived growth factor (PDGF) is a family of dimeric glycoprotein growth factors that regulate cell growth, division, and migration, particularly in mesenchymal-origin cells. PDGF is crucial for angiogenesis, wound healing, embryonic development, and tissue repair. Aberrant PDGF/PDGFR signaling is implicated in cancer, fibrosis, and atherosclerosis. Recombinant human PDGF is used therapeutically to promote healing.
Recombinant human PDGF promotes cell proliferation and migration by binding to and activating PDGFRs. PDGFR inhibitors block the tyrosine kinase activity of PDGFRs, inhibiting downstream signaling pathways that drive cell proliferation and angiogenesis.
