The Platelet-derived growth factor (PDGF) pathway is comprised of a family of secreted, dimeric glycoproteins and their associated cell surface receptors that play critical roles in regulating cell growth, proliferation, migration, and survival. The pathway is essential for embryonic development, tissue repair, and implicated in various diseases including cancer. PDGF ligands bind to PDGF receptors (PDGFRs), receptor tyrosine kinases, activating downstream signaling cascades.
Ligand binding induces receptor dimerization and autophosphorylation, activating downstream signaling cascades that regulate gene expression affecting proliferation, cell cycle, migration, and cytoskeletal rearrangement.
