Platelet-derived growth factor receptor alpha polypeptide (PDGFRA) is a receptor tyrosine kinase that binds to PDGF ligands and regulates cell proliferation, survival, and differentiation. It plays a critical role in embryonic development and is implicated in various cancers and fibrotic diseases. Activation of PDGFRA leads to autophosphorylation and activation of downstream signaling pathways such as PI3K/AKT and MAPK. Mutations or aberrant activation of PDGFRA are linked to diseases like gastrointestinal stromal tumors (GISTs) and idiopathic hypereosinophilic syndrome.
