Platelet-derived growth factor receptor beta (PDGFRβ) is a cell surface receptor encoded by the *PDGFRB* gene. It belongs to the type III receptor tyrosine kinase family and plays a critical role in cellular signaling, particularly in processes such as cell proliferation, migration, survival, and differentiation. It is essential for embryonic development, regulates pericyte recruitment, controls tissue homeostasis, and is involved in wound healing. Due to its central role in pathological proliferation/migration of vascular smooth muscle/fibroblasts/pericytes—and its involvement in certain cancers—PDGFRβ is a target for small molecule inhibitors used clinically.
