Platelet-derived growth factor subunit B (PDGF-B) is a potent mitogen that stimulates the proliferation and migration of cells of mesenchymal origin. It plays a crucial role in various biological processes, including embryonic development, wound healing, and angiogenesis. PDGF-B functions by binding to and activating tyrosine kinase receptors PDGFR-alpha and PDGFR-beta, initiating downstream signaling cascades that regulate cell growth, survival, and differentiation. Overexpression or mutations in PDGFB are implicated in diseases such as meningioma and dermatofibrosarcoma protuberans (DFSP).
