Platelet factor 4 variant 1 (PF4V1) is a protein structurally related to platelet factor 4 (PF4), classified as a chemokine in the CXC family. It displays potent antiangiogenic effects, regulates tumor growth, and is implicated in blood coagulation, immune response modulation, and vascular barrier protection in diabetes. PF4V1 is regulated by the CXCR3 receptor and shares key functions and disease roles with PF4, including potential impacts in cancer, blood disorders, and diabetic retinopathy[4].\n\nNote: PF4V1 is distinct from canonical PF4 (CXCL4) but is highly similar and shares several molecular and biological features. No evidence of misspelling or conceptual error was found; "variant 1" accurately reflects the gene/protein as documented clinically and genomically[4]. There are currently no approved drugs targeting PF4V1 specifically, but its paralog PF4 is drug-interactive, and similar mechanisms may apply.
