Target intelligence / Profile preview
Platelet glycoprotein Ib alpha chain (GPIbα, CD42b) is a critical component of the platelet surface membrane receptor complex involved in hemostasis and thrombosis. It mediates platelet adhesion to sites of vascular injury by binding von Willebrand factor (VWF) exposed at damaged vessel walls, initiating platelet tethering under high shear conditions and triggering downstream signaling cascades. Mutations or polymorphisms in GP1BA are associated with bleeding disorders.
