Overview

Platelet glycoprotein IX (GPIX) is a critical component of the GPIb-IX-V receptor complex, exclusively expressed on platelets. This complex mediates platelet adhesion to sites of vascular injury by binding to von Willebrand factor (VWF), particularly under high shear stress conditions. Defects in GPIX can lead to bleeding disorders like Bernard-Soulier syndrome, while its dysregulation can contribute to thrombosis. Targeting this receptor is being explored as a strategy to modulate thrombosis.
