Platinum (Pt)

Platinum is a dense, malleable, ductile, and highly unreactive noble metal with a silver-white appearance. It has a high melting point (~1770°C), exceptional resistance to corrosion and oxidation, and is chemically stable—features that underpin its industrial applications in catalysis, jewelry, electronics, and laboratory equipment. In medicine, platinum itself is not a therapeutic target, but platinum-containing compounds (such as cisplatin) are used as anticancer agents for their ability to induce DNA cross-linking and subsequent cell death. As "free platinum," the metal has no known direct biological signaling or disease role, and its listing as a molecular target is incorrect.
