PLCE1 Antisense RNA 2 (PLCE1-AS2) is a naturally occurring antisense long non-coding RNA (lncRNA) transcribed from the PLCE1 gene locus. Antisense RNAs, including PLCE1-AS2, are involved in gene regulation via mechanisms such as transcriptional interference (where the act of antisense transcription affects the transcription of the sense gene), chromatin remodeling, and interaction with mRNA to modulate its stability or splicing[2][3]. Antisense RNAs are typically classified as regulatory non-coding RNAs rather than direct therapeutic targets or classical receptors, enzymes, or transporters. They generally function to modulate expression of neighboring or overlapping genes, often in a manner that is context- and tissue-dependent[2]. There is currently no evidence that PLCE1-AS2 acts as a direct target for drugs or is clearly implicated in specific disease states or therapeutic contexts. It should not be confused with the protein-coding PLCE1 gene, which encodes phospholipase C epsilon 1, a well-characterized enzyme with roles in cellular signaling and disease[1][5][3].
