Overview

PLEKHM2 antisense RNA 1 (PLEKHM2-AS1) is a long non-coding RNA gene located antisense to the protein-coding gene PLEKHM2. As an antisense lncRNA, it may play a role in the post-transcriptional or epigenetic regulation of the PLEKHM2 gene, analogous to other antisense lncRNAs that modulate gene stability, expression, or chromatin state[2]. However, there is currently no direct experimental evidence describing its biological function, its disease relevance, or its candidacy as a therapeutically actionable target. The molecule is distinguished from canonical drug targets by its non-protein coding nature and lack of direct disease associations. Thus, PLEKHM2-AS1 is best classified as a genomic regulatory RNA with largely uncharacterized function and no current pharmacological targeting or biomarker status[4][6].

Biological functions

Potential regulation of sense gene expression (PLEKHM2) via antisense mechanisms, as observed in other antisense lncRNAsEpigenetic and post-transcriptional modulation (inferred by analogy to other antisense lncRNAs, but not directly evidenced for PLEKHM2-AS1)

Disease associations

Other (no documented role in annotated disorders, and no validated association with specific diseases such as cancer, cardiovascular, or neurological disease)
