Plexin-B3 is a type I transmembrane glycoprotein receptor that belongs to the plexin family and serves as a functional receptor for specific members of the semaphorin family, including Semaphorin 5A (Sema5A) and, in certain species and contexts, Semaphorin 3E or 3D[1][2]. Plexin-B3 is expressed in multiple tissues, with prominent roles in the nervous system where it mediates axon guidance and directs cell migration during neural development, particularly through the binding and transduction of signals from semaphorins[1][2]. It may also associate with the receptor tyrosine kinase Met, enabling semaphorin-dependent modulation of cellular behaviors such as collapse, repulsion, or invasive growth[2]. Experimental evidence also links Plexin-B3 to roles in cancer cell migration and progression, as well as potential involvement in neurodevelopmental and neuropsychiatric disorders[1][2].
