Overview

PLS1 antisense RNA 1 (PLS1-AS1) is a noncoding RNA gene classified as a long noncoding antisense RNA. Antisense RNAs are involved in the regulation of gene expression, typically by interacting with or modulating the expression of their corresponding sense gene (here, presumably PLS1, which encodes Plastin 1)[1][5]. Though a growing class of functional RNA molecules, PLS1-AS1 itself has no established protein product, nor is it a receptor or enzyme, and currently there is no evidence supporting its use as a direct therapeutic target. Its molecular role remains to be fully characterized but is presumably related to gene regulation through antisense mechanisms similar to other lncRNAs[1][6]. There is no data indicating it is a misspelled, incorrect, or otherwise problematic entity; however, it is not currently classified as a canonical pharmacological target. PLS1-AS1 is a valid, correctly named long noncoding antisense RNA gene but is not a conventional therapeutic target, and has no known aliases, drug interactions, or direct disease roles as of current data[1][5][6].

02

Mechanism of action

(Not applicable as a drug target; generally, antisense lncRNAs may regulate expression of the overlapping sense gene by transcriptional or post-transcriptional mechanisms)

03

Biological functions

Regulation of gene expression (typically of the sense/overlapping gene, plausibly PLS1)
04

Disease associations

Insufficient direct evidence for disease association or therapeutic role found. Other antisense RNAs can regulate important genes, but no established link to disease for PLS1-AS1 as of current reporting.
05

Safety considerations

None described. Not a current therapeutic target.
