PLXNC1 antisense RNA 1 (PLXNC1-AS1) is a long non-coding RNA transcribed antisense to the PLXNC1 gene, and is part of a class of antisense RNAs known to regulate gene expression at the transcriptional and post-transcriptional levels[2]. Antisense RNAs often control their sense gene partner through mechanisms such as chromatin remodeling, transcriptional interference, and modulation of mRNA stability or alternative splicing. While PLXNC1 itself is a receptor with roles in neuronal development, immune response, and cancer[1][3], the specific function of PLXNC1-AS1 remains to be experimentally determined. General functions of antisense lncRNAs include modulation of gene expression patterns that can have implications for cellular development, disease, and potentially cancer, but no literature currently identifies PLXNC1-AS1 as a direct therapeutic target or disease biomarker[2].
