Overview

PNMA family member 3 (PNMA3), also known as paraneoplastic antigen Ma3 or MA3, is a protein-coding gene in the PNMA family, which shows homology to retroviral Gag proteins. PNMA3 is highly expressed in the brain and in various tumors frequently associated with paraneoplastic neurological syndromes, where autoantibodies to this antigen are markers of disease. Alternative splicing creates several isoforms, but the protein's precise role in normal physiology and disease remains largely uncharacterized. It is not currently established as a direct therapeutic target, but its immunogenicity and brain/tumor expression pattern make it notable for cancer-associated neurological autoimmunity[1][3][6].
