Poliovirus Antigen

Target
Poliovirus Antigen
Molecular classification
Viral structural protein, Capsid protein, Antigen
01

Overview

The poliovirus antigen refers to the structural proteins and epitopes present on the surface of the poliovirus particle that are recognized by the immune system. These antigens are primarily located on the viral capsid, which is composed of four proteins: VP1, VP2, VP3, and VP4. The external surface of the capsid is formed by VP1, VP2, and VP3; these proteins contain key antigenic sites targeted by neutralizing antibodies. Major antigenic sites (neutralizing antigenic or NAg sites) have been mapped mainly to exposed loops on these capsid proteins.
