"Poliovirus immunity" refers to the body's adaptive immune response following infection or vaccination against poliovirus. Immunity is primarily mediated by the production of neutralizing antibodies: *IgA* antibodies in the gastrointestinal mucosa prevent virus replication and shedding, while *IgG* and *IgM* antibodies in the blood prevent systemic spread and invasion of the central nervous system. Vaccines (OPV and IPV) are designed to elicit these protective immune responses, and robust mucosal immunity is particularly important in halting poliovirus transmission. Immunity to one serotype of poliovirus does not confer protection against the others, so broad protection requires exposure or vaccination against all three serotypes[3][4][7][8].
