Poliovirus type 1–3 antigen refers to the antigenic components present on the three serotypes of poliovirus: type 1 (PV-1), type 2 (PV-2), and type 3 (PV-3). These antigens are primarily located on the viral capsid proteins and are responsible for eliciting immune responses, particularly neutralizing antibodies, in humans. The capsid consists mainly of four proteins: VP4, VP2, VP3, and especially surface-exposed VP1. The key neutralizing epitopes reside within defined regions (“loops”) on these proteins: N‑AgI / Site I (VP1 aa 89–100), N‑AgII/Site IIa/b (VP1/VP2 aa 220–222(VP1);169/170(VP₂)), and N‑AgIII/Site III (Various Varies). These antigens are used in diagnostic testing and vaccine development.
