Overview
Poliovirus type 2 (PV-2) MEF–1 capsid proteins are the structural components of the viral capsid, composed of VP1, VP2, VP3, and VP4. These proteins are critical for viral assembly, host cell recognition, and are the primary targets for neutralizing antibodies. PV-2 MEF–1 is a reference strain used in inactivated polio vaccines (IPV) and virus-like particle (VLP) vaccines. The capsid proteins define cellular receptor specificity and antigenicity. Recombinant versions are expressed in yeast or golden hamster cells to produce non-infectious VLPs for research and vaccine development.
