Target intelligence / Profile preview
The poliovirus type 3 capsid is a protein shell that encases the viral RNA genome, providing protection and playing a critical role in host cell recognition and entry. The capsid is composed of four structural proteins: VP1, VP2, VP3, and VP4. Each virion contains 60 copies of each of these proteins arranged with icosahedral symmetry. The capsid proteins are derived from the N-terminal region (P1) of the viral polyprotein through proteolytic processing.
