Poliovirus Type 3 Saukett Strain Capsid Proteins (PV3 Saukett Capsid)

Target
PV3 Saukett Capsid
Molecular classification
Structural Protein, Viral Capsid Protein
01

Overview

The capsid proteins of the poliovirus type 3 Saukett strain (VP1, VP2, VP3, and VP4) are structural proteins that form the outer shell of the virus particle. These proteins encapsulate and protect the viral RNA genome and play a critical role in host cell recognition, entry, and immune response activation. The Saukett strain is used in the production of inactivated poliovirus vaccine (IPV). The capsid proteins elicit neutralizing antibody responses essential for protective immunity against poliomyelitis.

Mechanism of action

The inactivated poliovirus vaccine (IPV) contains purified, formaldehyde-inactivated type 3 poliovirus grown from this strain, leading to production of neutralizing antibodies that prevent viral infection.
