Poliovirus types 1, 2, and 3 antigens are the structural proteins, primarily capsid proteins VP1, VP2, VP3, and VP4, that elicit an immune response. These antigens are crucial for serotype-specific recognition by neutralizing antibodies and are the basis for both live attenuated (OPV) and inactivated (IPV) polio vaccines. Detection of antibodies against these antigens is used to assess immunity to each serotype.
