Pollen Allergen

Molecular classification
Protein, Glycoprotein
01

Overview

Pollen allergens are proteins or glycoproteins found within the pollen grains of various plants (trees, grasses, weeds). These molecules trigger allergic reactions in sensitized individuals upon inhalation, leading to allergic rhinitis, conjunctivitis, and asthma exacerbations. Specific IgE antibodies mediate the allergic response, causing mast cell degranulation and release of inflammatory mediators. Allergen immunotherapy aims to induce immune tolerance and reduce sensitivity over time.
